About

Play to Thrive was set up by a group of qualified Play and Creative Arts Therapists to provide an online information hub for families and professionals in Shropshire. We are not a company, simply a collection of self-employed Play Therapists. Many of us have under-taken further training to offer additional services, either alongside or instead of Play Therapy.

Everyone listed on Play to Thrive has, at the minimum, a postgraduate diploma in Play Therapy, or is currently training to achieve this.  We are all registered with a recognised professional membership organisation for Play Therapy, either Play Therapy United Kingdom (PTUK) or The British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT), and are listed on Professional Standards Authority Accredited Registers. Please click the links below to access the PSA registers.

Please note, non-practising Play Therapists are not listed on the public register but their status can be confirmed by contacting the relevant professional membership organisation.

To remain on these accredited registers, each practising therapist must abide by their professional membership organisation’s Ethical Framework, attend monthly clinical supervision, and undertake yearly continuing professional development (CPD). They must also each acquire:

  • Professional Liability insurance

  • An Enhanced DBS check

  • Registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office for Data Protection

Currently, ‘Play Therapist’ is not a protected title (as opposed to an Art Therapist for example), and therefore anyone can call themselves a play therapist without undergoing any training and without adhering to an ethical framework. Please protect yourselves and your children by ensuring the therapist you work with is operating safely and ethically. Play to Thrive is not liable for any misconduct from any therapists listed on this directory.
