My experience is predominantly in educational settings supporting the emotional health and well-being of primary age children and their families. Having been employed by a school for a number of years as a full time Play Therapist and Well-being Coordinator, I have delivered therapeutic interventions for a real range of presenting issues.
I am passionate about strengthening relationships as this, in my opinion, is the key to achieving real change for young people. This may be focusing on my own therapeutic relationship with a child; to working with families to increase communication and understanding through play (Filial Therapy); or through supporting school staff to create meaningful relationships with the children in their care.
I like to work holistically so, with permission from a child and family, I like to involve school in the therapeutic process, supporting teaching staff to understand the effects of trauma on behaviour and, where appropriate, providing therapeutic strategies to use in class to help pupils settle to learn. In my experience this approach results in a more long lasting, successful outcome for a child.
I have also delivered a variety of trainings to a number of different audiences.
